Celebrating St. Patrick's Day

First, we wrote facts about Leprechauns and St. Partrick on a green piece of paper.  Then we made the paper into a Leprechaun Hat. It was a lot of fun and we learned about the holiday. Fun, Fun, Fun!

We counted, patterned and graphed Lucky Charms for St. Patrick's Day.

Best Pen Pals Ever

My son Mike married an awesome girl named Jennie in 2009.  Jennie's mom is a second grade teacher in American Fork, Utah.  At our kid's wedding reception, we, as teachers, thought it would be a great idea to have our students be Pen Pals.  It has been a super experience for all of the kids.  It is funny to listen to my kids say things like, "they forgot to capitalize the beginning of sentences or put punctuation at the end" or "I can see how important it is to write carefully" or "I love their penmanship" or "My Pen Pal is so interesting" etc. Mrs. LeBaron's class sent us Pots of Gold (with real candy gold) and a fun letter.  We replied with Easter pictures, letters and an Easter Egg for each student. One of the standards we teach in second grade is how to write a 'friendly letter'. This has been a super way to fulfill that requirement.

Teen Tutors visit from Century

Ms. Ruth's class from Century High School spent the morning with us.  Each of her students worked with a small group.  First, each group brainstormed a Folktale idea, then they wrote a story and last, they made a puppet that matched the story.  Each group presented their story in a puppet show.  The teenagers were amazing and so patient and so, so, so much fun.  They went to recess with us and then let the kids read to them. They were such a great example of kindness and the importance of staying in school.  One of my kids whispered to me that she "wants to be just like them when she's teenagered".
