Habitats Are Us!

One of the Common Core Standards involves researching a given subject and writing a paragraph giving actual facts about the subject. Our school district decided that in second grade we would research different habitats. The kids did a great job of learning about four different habitats. Then they wrote a paper comparing two of the different kinds of habitats and how they are similar and how they are different. Most of the kids did a great job on their writing assignment.
After the writing part was done, the kids were divided into four groups. I gave them an empty diorama. Each team was assigned a habitat. They were to work together to build it and each student was required to explain something they learned about their habitat.
They did a super job and I was very impressed at how well they worked together and how much they learned. Excellent job kids!
