We did a Reading Train and figured out that the kids become better readers if they follow along while their reading partner reads. So, we read with glow-in-the-dark Witch fingers. It was a lot of fun until one child pointed out that 'it was too hard to read when his finger was sweating'. It was fun to try to convince them that the glow-in-the-dark fingers wouldn't put out enough light for them to read by. We decided that it would be cool if someone invented a reading finger that was bright enough so they could read in the dark but didn't make their fingers sweat. The inventors in our class said they were going to get working on it!

The Big Dipper
In the book we read called Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night, Henry and Mudge go camping. They learned about The Big Dipper. Grandma Barb help the kids make a Big Dipper with paint. Most of the kids were able to find The Big Dipper at night. We learned about constellations and how interesting the nighttime sky is.

Farm Animal Poetry
In addition to learning about and making farm animals we also studied about poetry. The kids were separated into 5 creative teams and wrote a poem about a given farm animal. Then they presented their poems to the class. We have some talented kids! Here are their poems!
THE SHEEP PEOPLE
Meep the sheep can leap down a hill so steep.
She keeps in her jeep, she loves to beep.
She weeps when she has to sweep.
Now, Meep the sheep cannot peep or weep
because she is asleep!
THE DUCK PEOPLE
You are in luck if you want a duck because ducks tuck in their wings!
Ducks quack and they are white and black.
They have orange bills and other funny things!
THE COW PEOPLE
Now there was a cow who liked to play bow-wow!
She was friendly and nice and fun somehow!
But, she was really still a cow, who goes bow-wow!
THE PIG PEOPLE
Once there was a pig who loved to wear a wig.
He loved to do a jig and dance with a twig.
He drove a big rig and it's name was Jig!
THE HORSE PEOPLE
The horse had the 'Force".
He got it from the "Source".
The horse got a divorce,
which was very sad, of course!

ISU Football Players Visit - Coolest Guys Ever
ISU Football Players Mark and Erik visited our class. Mark talked to us about how important it is to keep our bodies healthy and strong and what he does to be physically fit enough to play football. He read with us and we got to take a picture with him.
Erik helped us learn about and build sheep for our farm. He let us take pictures with him too. Both men were so kind and patient. We had a great time and really appreciated spending time with them and we are all ISU football fans now because we know two players personally.
